Steps and Methods for Dental Handpiece Sterilization

7 steps and methods of dental handpiece sterilization, and precautions

Method / Step

  1. After the diagnosis and treatment, wipe out the visible pollutants on the outer surface, and idle with the needle for 20-30 seconds to discharge the pollutants in the water and steam path.
  2. Remove the needle and thoroughly clean the dental handpiece. You can choose manual cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning (according to the handpiece manufacturer’s recommendation), washing machine cleaning (you can wash the external surface and internal pipeline, but the initial investment is large), and then dry the mouth.
  3. Apply clean lubricant.
  4. Idle the dental handpiece with a needle to remove excess oil (a molecular oil layer on the surface of the medium can protect it, and the excess oil will oxidize and solidify to form stickies during heating, which will affect the operation of the handpiece).
  5. Clean the optical fiber (with dental fiber handpiece): cotton balls occupy a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to clean the optical fiber interface to avoid oil pollution affecting the optical fiber brightness.
  6. Packed in special equipment packaging bags. There should be a gap between the equipment to facilitate steam penetration. After sealing, record the date with a pencil.
  7. Put in the sterilizer and place it according to the requirements of the sterilizer manufacturer.

Precautions

With some rapid sterilizers, the packaging can be left unpacked during the sterilization process. After sterilization, the dental handpiece must be stored in a sterile sealed container, indicating the date of sterilization.

After sterilization, if it is not used for more than one month, it needs to be sterilized again.

With the oiler, oil filling and draining of excess waste oil can be done at the same time, without the need to idle the dental handpiece manually.

The drying process during the entire sterilization process completely dryes the dental handpiece, which is conducive to the storage of the dental handpiece and extending the service life.
