Six Details of Dental Handpiece Maintenance

When using the handpiece, it must be lubricated according to the instruction manual. Generally, the high-speed handpiece is lubricated twice a day. Low-speed handpieces (straight cone, contra angle, motor) once a day.

The working pressure of the handpiece must be strictly in accordance with the instructions. Under normal circumstances, the working pressure of the two-hole and three-hole handpiece is 2-2.2Kg, and the working pressure of four-hole, five-hole and six-hole is 2.4-2.5Kg (refers to the pressure at the interface between the handpiece and the connecting pipe). The pressure must be adjusted when the new treatment machine starts to be used, and the pressure on the treatment machine is re-calibrated for a period of time (about one month).

Disinfection: It should be disinfected by high temperature steam. It can not be disinfected by chemical liquid and dry heat. The disinfection temperature is 135 °C, and the longest time is no more than 30 minutes. It must be cleaned before disinfection and must be lubricated after disinfection. Note: Handpieces with quick-change connectors should be removed from the handpieces, only the handpiece should be disinfected, and the connector should not be disinfected. For low-speed handpieces, please remove the straight and contra angle heads for disinfection. Please clean with alcohol when there is dirt on the outside of the handpiece.

Do not use substandard, rusted, aged burs or grinding heads.

The gland high-speed handpiece must not press the gland when it is rotated to avoid damage to the movement. Straight nose, contra angle handpiece can not set up the bur while rotating.

Needle, grinding head or “standard rod” should be taken once a day to avoid rust caused by not taking out the needle for a long time.
