Description of Protection Level of Dust Masks

In addition to self-made masks and temporary masks, their types are mainly divided into surgical masks (medical masks) and dust masks (industrial masks). There are many kinds of materials. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) divides the material of this filter in the middle of the mask into the following three types:

1.N series: N stands for Not resistant to oil and can be used to protect non-oily suspended particles. 2.R series: R stands for Resistant to

Oil can be used to protect non-oily and oily suspended particles. 3.P series: P stands for oil

Proof can be used to protect non-oily and oily suspended particles. According to the minimum filtration efficiency of the filter material, the mask can be divided into the following three levels:

1.95 grade: indicates that the minimum filtration efficiency is 95%. 2.99 grade: indicates that the minimum filtration efficiency is 99%.

3.100 grade: indicates that the minimum filtration efficiency is 99.97%.

Dust masks are usually used to block dust or exhaust gas and cannot filter out germs. To deal with all kinds of flu, we should choose to use surgical masks, because there is a filter in the middle of this mask, which can block particles of 5 microns (one millionth of a meter) or more.

Therefore, N95, R95, P95, and N99, R99, P99 with higher bacteria filtering function, and even N100, R100, and P100 type masks can effectively filter suspended particles or bacteria.
